Saturday 5th September, Holywell Green & Stainland United Reformed Church
A wonderful afternoon was had by green fingered members of the community, and some who came from as far away as 'Brighouse'.
There was a fine selection of fruit, vegetables, preserves and new for this year Eggs.
The Fruit and Vegetable classes this year were won by Ian Nicholson, which also meant that he collected the 'Best in Show' title. The preserves class ws won jointly by Colin Lister and Phillipa Atkin. The winner of the inaugural Egg class was Philip Noble. The children's 'Garden on a Plate' competition was won by Kitty Kingsnorth for her amazing Wizard of Oz garden.
Throughout the afternoon, there was a steady stream of visitors coming through to view the produce and as always eat cake and drink tea!
It was nice to hear from one elderly lady that she had had a super 'unplanned' afternoon out with her daughter and was looking forward to the next event. Comments like this brings home just why we are working so hard on this campaign.
Thanks must go out firstly to our judges Paul Hirst, from Wyevale - Birchencliffe for his expertise in judging the Fruit, Veg and Preserve categories and Anne Smith for judging the new Egg class.
