TV's Tim brings antique enthusiasts out
The church hall was saw a great turnout with people from the village as well as people who had travelled from all over the region, to meet antiques expert Tim Hogarth. Tim who stars in TV's Secret Dealer and a regular on Dickinson's Real Deal told us how much he enjoyed the day. Clearly there is a real passion for antiques and perhaps the hope that the 50p car boot sale pot is really worth hundreds of pounds. Over 60 people came for advice and valuations and with donations, tea and cake sales as well as the raffle we raise £613. A big than you to James and Maria of the Duke of York and HCPL member Dean who donated the raffle prizes.
A great afternoon that again shows how the village is keen to get behind community events. We would like to thank Tim for giving his time for the campaign and we hope the next time he comes it will be in a new venue, a few yards up Stainland Road!

brewery trip - 29th august

The trip to our friends at Elland Brewery visit was thouoghly enjoyed by all that attended. The 1872 Porter that recently was acclaimed the Camra Champion Beer of Britain can in for rave reviews, as did their other ales by our connoisseurs who made sure that all the range were sampled.
We hope that one day soon these same beers may be available over the bar in a refurbished Hoywell Inn.

Congratulations to all our winners including Jane Gardner (not pictured) who won the bottle of Ameretto. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket , these fundraising events are important part of the campaign to secure the Holy Well Inn for the village.
Neighbours Day
The Holy Well Inn action group had an information and fundraising stall at Calderdale's Neighbours day which was sponsered by Fletchers Family Fisheries. It was a successful way of getting the message over to people of Calderdale and networking with a variety of other local community organisations. The stall raised £20 in raffle tickets and £35 on a straw game for children so some fundraising as well. The stall won the best dressed stall award - thanks must go to John and Bev for there work on dressing the stall and building a model well!
The Coronation Jubilee Celebration
The Jubilee Celebration organised by the Shaw Park Restoration Group was a great success. The Holywell Inn action group had an information stall where we spread the message and joined in with the festivities. The gala was well attended in glorious sunshine.
BAKE OFF a Great success
The first ever Holywell Green Bake off was a great success. It seemed as if the entire village had entered. A huge thank you to all who donated cakes and buns and everyone who entered and attended. The judges Richard Conway (of Morrisons, Elland) and Louise Cooper (of the Examiner) had a difficult task in judging the fabulous array of cakes, buns and pies that were entered, so much so that they had to draft in two further judges on the day. Thanks to Elizabeth Bailey and Heather Tomlinson for their help. The sales of tea and cakes were brisk and everyone seemed to leave with armfuls of goodies. After all expenses were deducted the event raised an incredible £612 for the campaign. Nothing was wasted and the remaining cakes and buns were offered to people in the local community and the hospice.

Social Evening at ELLAND Golf club Great success
The Quiz Night and supper at Elland Golf Club on Thursday 11th April was a great success raising some £285 but more importantly it was a great opportunity to get together, share progress we have made, and discuss the plans for a community pub.
The support from the community and local businesses was fantastic, almost all local businesses supported the campaign with raffle prizes from almost 40 businesses and a number of local residents. See report in Stop Press |
Thank you to the local businesses that donated raffle prizes - please remember them when doing your shopping!
